For grown-ups
How the Little Lights books work
Every book is about one feeling and one Light who knows it well. Each Light has one small thing they do when the feeling comes, and the story turns when they do it. Your child learns it by doing it with them, and keeps it.
The words
| When your child feels… | The Light | What they do |
|---|---|---|
| scared | Pip | Brave. (whispered) |
| mad | Ruby | Breathe. (one big breath) |
| how she feels | Sunny | POP! (shouted) |
| worn out | Wick | Rest. (open hands) |
| shy or alone | Fen | Here. (a hand up) |
| someone | Sela | Hmmmm (a soft hum) |
What we believe about the light
The light inside each Little Light is a gift. It isn’t earned by being good, and it isn’t lost by being scared or angry. It can be hidden, and it can be shared. That’s true in every book, and it’s the most important thing we want your child to hear.
Each book carries one Bible verse, in the back. The faith is in the shape of the story, not in a lesson at the end.
Two kinds of books
Story books (ages 4–8) are full read-alouds. Do-along books (ages 2–5) are short, with a “Your turn!” on most pages, and each one is also an animated episode.
